Kellie Harrington set to begin bid for 12th National Elite Championship title this weekend

Kellie Harrington will be part of the field when the 2026 National Elite Championships begin on Friday at the National Stadium.

Double Olympic champion Harrington, Paris Olympians Daina Moorehouse, Jenny Lehane, Michaela Walsh, Jude Gallagher, Dean Clancy and Jack Marley – alongside Olympian and 2025 World champ Aoife O'Rourke, Paris Olympian and 2025 World bronze medalist Grainne Walsh, and 2025 World bronze medalist Patsy Joyce – will all be part of the competition.

The quarter-finals start on Friday evening with semi-final boxing beginning on Saturday at 3pm.

More semi-finals will be held on Friday 16 January with all finals taking place on 17 January.

Harrington will face Tramore's Zara Breslin in the 60kg semi-finals in the seventh fight of Saturday's schedule.

The Dubliner began her comeback from retirment with an exhibition bout against the Netherlands' Chelsey Heijnen at the end of 2025.

The 35-year-old called time on her career following the 2024 Paris Games but announced her intention to return over a year later.

Harrington has won 11 Elite National Championships previously.

There are 75 boxers from 17 counties scheduled to compete in this year's championships.

There are two champions already due to by walkover; Emma Keating of Paulstown BC from Kilkenny at 80kg and Cliona D’Arcy of Tobar Pheadair BC in Galway at 80+kg due to a lack of opponent.

Among those in action in Friday’s opening night are Olympian Gallagher and 2024 European champion Shannon Sweeney of St Anne’s BC Mayo.
