History will be made at Windsor Park in Belfast on 13 September as Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan's rematch will be for the vacant IBF Welterweight title – the first time two Irish fighters have met for a world title later

The pair met back in March in a final eliminator for the title and it ended in controversial fashion as Crocker won by disqualification after referee Marcus McDonnell disqualified Donovan for a punch that landed after the bell went at the end of the eighth round.

A rematch was ultimately ordered by the IBF after the Limerick fighter’s manager, Keith Sullivan, appealed the outcome of the bout, also citing the deduction of points for using the head, which he claimed should not have occurred.

That rematch was again set to be a final eliminator, but Jaron Ennis’ move to super-welterweight has freed up the title.

"This is the fight I’ve wanted since the final bell of the first one," said Belfast man Crocker.

"To run it back for the IBF world title - and to do it such an iconic stadium in Belfast, in front of my own people - is something I’ve dreamed of my whole life.

"This isn’t just a rematch. It’s my chance to silence the doubters and prove I’m the best welterweight in the world.

"I know exactly what I need to do and on fight night, I’m leaving with that world title."

Donovan, who was easing his way to victory before that disqualification, said: "It's going to be a great atmosphere in Belfast on fight night.

"I'm looking to repeat another stellar boxing performance, set the record straight and come home with a world title.

"I can't wait."
