Roscommon sisters Lisa and Aoife O'Rourke have secured podium places at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Serbia.

The Castlerea siblings both went into battle in Thursday evening's session in search of a final-four placing in their respective 70kg and 75kg divisions and both came through their quarter-final bouts to guarantee at least bronze medals at the prestigious amateur event.

First into the ring was younger sibling Lisa and she became a two-time World medallist thanks to a unanimous decision victory over Morocco's Saida Lahmidi.

Within the hour, two-time Olympian Aoife made it a family double by securing a split decision win over Aziza Zokirova of Uzbekistan.

Both fighters will now box for a place in the final and a chance to upgrade their medals from bronze to gold or silver.
