Paris Olympian Daina Moorehouse suffered disappointment in her IBA Women's World Boxing Championships 50kg bout on Tuesday afternoon, losing to eighth seed Hu Meiyi of China on a split decision.
The diminutive Moorehouse was typically sparky throughout but could not do enough to get the verdict in Serbia.
Another Irish Olympian, Gráinne Walsh, has her 66kg last-16 bout against Uzbekistan's reigning Asian champion Navbakhor Khamidova in the evening session.
It's been a difficult start to the championships for Ireland.
Heavyweight Judy Bobbett lost to Turkish fighter Elif Guneri, while 19-year-old Carleigh Irving (48kg) was narrowly beaten by Venezuela's Tayonis Cendeno Rojas.
Olympians Jenny Lehane (54kg) and Michaela Walsh (58kg) also lost their opening bouts - the former pipped by 2024 Asian champion Natnicha Chongprongklang, with Walsh shaded by Serbia's Andjela Brankovic on Monday evening.
