Anthony Cacace will face Leigh Wood in Nottingham on 10 May after relinquishing his IBF world title won last year.
The Belfast man will face Wood in his hometown whilst defending the IBO World Super Featherweight title.
The 35-year-old opted to give up the more valued IBF crown after he was mandated to take on Eduardo 'Sugar' Nunez – a fight Cacace claimed did not represent financial sense in comparison to Wood.
Cacace had won the belt by beating Joe Cordina last year, but Nunez would have proven a tough opponent.
"Becoming a world champion was an absolute dream and an incredibly proud moment for me," Cacace said prior to the confirmation of the bout with Wood.
"However, at this stage of my career, I only want the biggest fights possible, regardless of the belt on the line.
"I’m a prizefighter and my aim now is to secure mine and my family's future and to create a legacy for myself in boxing by being involved in massive fights that fans will remember."
Wood famously defeated Michael Conlan in a gruelling bout in March 2022, while he also beat another Irishman in David Oliver Joyce.
The former WBA featherweight world champion has been out of the ring since October 2023 when defeating Josh Warrington – the fighter Cacace saw off in his previous time in the ring in September of last year.
The clash of Cacace and Wood will be broadcast on DAZN and will likely sell out the 9,000 capacity Motorpoint Arena.
