Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan engaged in a war of words at the press conference to formally announce their all-Irish clash in Belfast in March, with a world title shot on the line.

Hometown fighter Crocker (20-0, 11 KOs) and Limerick's Paddy Donovan (14-0, 11 KOs) will meet in the SSE Arena on 1 March.

The bout is an IBF world title eliminator for the mandatory challenger position to face welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, with a crowd of up to 7,000 expected.

Donovan accused Crocker of avoiding a rematch with Conah Walker, having struggled in that bout, and that "Lews was forced" to fight him in order to avoid a second clash with Walker.

Amid a partisan crowd in Belfast, the Limerick man taunted the home supporters and told them to make sure they are present to watch his victory.

Donovan, who dressed as Crocodile Dundee for the press event, added: "I will knock Lewis Crocker out. I don’t believe Lewis is a world class fighter. There are levels and I don’t believe Lewis is at world level. I’m a lot better than him.

"I had 10 fights and I was inside the top 10 in the world, it took him 20 fights to get there."

Crocker said: "This is the biggest stage. I represent every community in Belfast and I’m a proud Belfast man.

"There is no doubt in my mind their camp is taking too much confidence from the Conah Walker fight.

"I am going to be a different man and I will be a tough man to beat, mark my words."

Donovan is trained by former world champion Andy Lee, who exuded huge confidence in his fighter.

"People are expecting a hard fight and it will be in a way because we are going into the cauldron of Belfast," Lee stated.

"Paddy is the away fighter and all that stuff. But in terms of boxing, I think Paddy Donovan is just too good. He is a generational talent and you will see that. I know what Paddy can do. We know Lewis Crocker is a big puncher. I would argue Paddy is a bigger puncher."

Lee's counterpart Billy Nelson believes experience will tell for Crocker on the night: "This fight will be a cracking fight but Paddy Donovan will be stopped by Lewis Crocker, that is 100%. The difference between the two of them, in my opinion, is Lewis is the more rounded professional.

"He has fought better fighters. Paddy has not fought anyone inside the top 30 that is a fully-fledged welterweight. He will find out what one is like on 1 March."
