Amateur boxing in Ireland is to have funding restored as Minister for Sport Jack Chambers confirmed that Sport Ireland are satisfied with the governance reforms agreed to by the IABA since September.

'On the basis of that agreement the conditions are now in place to restore funding in the coming weeks,' said Minister Chambers on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne.

Funding will depend on the implementation of agreed reforms, primarily regarding governance, culture change, board structure and the protection of grassroots and high performance structures.

The governing body will be advertising for a new independent secretary and chairperson and Minister Chambers said following through on this would be "key".

In August, it was announced that a 15% reduction in the IABA's core funding would be imposed after members of the national governing body for amateur boxing voted overwhelmingly to reject proposed governance reforms at their EGM in Roscommon.

That vote came two months after Bernard Dunne resigned his role as the IABA's high performance director.

Minister Chambers also said he will "work with everyone" to make Katie Taylor's proposed homecoming fight at Croke Park next year happen.
