Kellie Harrington and Niamh Fay ensured that there was a winning start for Ireland on day one at the European Championships in Montenegro.

Reigning Olympic and 2018 world champion, Harrington, eased through her opening bout in the 60kg lightweight division, easily accounting for French fighter, Maiva Hamadouche, winning a unanimous 5:0 decision from the judges.

European Under-22 champion Fay was first of the Irish into the ring at the prestigious event and she made light work of Italy's Sirine Charaabi in the 54kg division.

The Dublin bantamweight took the decision on all the judges' cards with a unanimous 5:0 victory.
