A dominant performance from Lisa O'Rourke saw the Irish boxer enjoy a winning start at the AIBA Women’s World Championships in Istanbul.

Competing in the 70kg category, O’Neill was a convincing winner over Mbabi Brigitte of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a scorecard of 30-24, 30-25, 30-25, 30-27 and 30-26.

O’Rourke, a gold medallist from the European Under-22 Boxing Championships earlier this year and younger sister of Tokyo Olympian and European champion Aoife, will be back in action on Friday evening when she takes on Olympic quarter-finalist and multiple PanAm medalist Maria Moronta of the Dominican Republic.

Amy Broadhurst had also initially been down to fight on Monday but her bout was rescheduled for Wednesday.
