Michael Conlan's first tilt at the world featherweight title against Leigh Wood looks set to be staged in the champion's hometown of Nottingham on 12 March.

New York, London and Belfast were touted as possible venues but Wood, WBA featherweight champion since his surprise defeat of Can Xu in Matchroom Headquarters in July, will enjoy home advantage for the first defence of his title.

Conlan - who has been managed by MTK Global, a sports management company linked to Daniel Kinahan - initially wanted to fight on St Patrick's Day in New York but has agreed to the title fight for it to be staged a week earlier in Nottingham.

For Conlan, it will be a first shot at a world title belt five years after turning pro. The Belfast fighter remains undefeated, taking his record to 16-0 with his defeat of TJ Doheny in Falls Park in August.
