The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make a decision as early as possible on whether boxing and weightlifting will be at the Paris 2024 Games, president Thomas Bach said.
"We are quite concerned because in these two federations there are problems of good governance and that is why we are currently monitoring them very closely," Bach told French sports daily L'Equipe.
"We will make a decision as soon as possible in the interest of the athletes."
Issues of finance, governance, ethics and refereeing and judging have plagued the International Boxing Association for years.
Last month an independent investigation into the Olympic boxing competition at Rio 2016 determined that an informal bout manipulation system existed, with Michael Conlan's match against Russia's Vladimir Nikitin among those deemed "suspicious".
Boxing was only allowed at the 2020 Olympics after all qualifying events were run under guidelines established by the IOC Executive Board.
The IOC then stripped AIBA of the rights to organise the boxing tournament in Tokyo.
Most recently the two organisations have been at loggerheads over Serbia's refusal to allow Kosovan boxers entre the country for the World Boxing Championship.
The IOC blamed the issue on AIBA's 'lack of due diligence in awarding the tournament to Belgrade'.
About weightlifting, Bach said earlier this year that "with regard of good governance I think we still need to see a culture change in this international federation".
