Jason Quigley produced a brilliant performance in Las Vegas to edge out Shane Mosley Jr in an absorbing NABO middleweight title fight.
Quigley had been due to face Mosley Jnr on 13 February but the fight was cancelled due to the Irishman suffering from an unspecified illness.
He finally got down to business in the early hours of this morning and ensured this contest was worth the wait.
Quigley collapsed to his knees and wept tears of joy after his majority decision was announced.
It's a huge morale boost for the 30-year-old who suffered a big setback in 2019 when he was beaten by Tureano Johnson.
Afterwards he linked up up with former world middleweight champion Andy Lee, earning two stoppage wins since as part of a promising rebuild.
His victory in Vegas is a significant step forward, with Quigley saying afterwards that he now wants a crack at Demetrius 'Boo Boo' Andrade for the the WBO World middleweight belt.
Meanwhile Gary 'Spike' O’Sullivan secured a routine victory on his return to the ring. He had a unanimous points success over Nodar Robakidze in Belgium.
Now operating at super-welterweight again, the scorecards were 58-56, 59-55 and 60-54 in favour of the Cork man in the six-rounder.
