Eric Donovan ended his 2020 on a high as he got past Rafael Castillo over six rounds at the Fight Off Training Center in Belgium on Saturday night.
The 35-year-old suffered an eighth-round knockout against Zelfa Barrett last August that ended his hopes of winning the IBF Super Featherweight Intercontinental title.
Fighting on the undercard of two Belgium title fights tonight, the Kildare man got back on track on points having had the better of every round.
Castillo, who went the distance with James Tennyson in Belfast four years ago, was an experienced and durable opponent but Donovan had too much class and he can look forward to greater challenges in the new year.
Tennyson powered to a very impressive victory over Josh O'Reilly in their WBA world title eliminator at the Wembley Arena on Friday night.
