Katie Taylor has made history time and again throughout her boxing career and is set to do so once more on Saturday evening when she takes on Miriam Gutierrez at the SSE Arena in Wembley.
Taylor defends her undisputed world lightweight title on the top of a bill that is headlined by three women's fights - something unthinkable a decade ago.
The Bray fighter has constantly changed the game throughout her career and as significant an occasion as the event feels, it’s the natural progression of Taylor’s trajectory and exactly where she should be – headlining big fight nights.
Taylor has long spoken of her desire to create a legacy for women’s boxing and Saturday’s bout is another major step on the road towards doing so.
"When I was growing up there wasn't any (women's boxing at the) Olympics, there wasn't female boxers on these professional cards," she explained.
"The fact women's boxing is in the Olympics is absolutely incredible, there's a female boxing match on every single card right now, which is insane.
"And the fact there's three world title fights on one bill over the weekend - I never thought I would see that growing up. That in itself is a great legacy."
However, for all the talk of legacies and of breaking new ground, the Bray woman knows that she still has a testing fight in store, against an opponent that can ask genuine questions of her.
Gutierrez may not be a household name outside of her native Spain but she comes into this bout with an impressive professional record of 13 wins from 13 fights with five KOs.
Having arrived late in her career to the professional ranks, the Madrid fighter has taken to the paid game well, although this will be her first fight outside of her native Spain.
Like Taylor, Gutierrez started her boxing career in the amateur ranks but unlike her opponent, her success was limited to the domestic Spanish scene and her record as an amateur was a mixed one.
Lacking some of the boxing ability that Taylor possesses, Gutierrez is a strong fighter who seems more suited to the professional ranks, where her natural strength can and does make more of a difference.
That punching power and ability to end a fight in quick-order is something that Taylor is going to have to be very cautious of.
On paper Taylor is the heavy favourite and ordinarily this should be a routine fight for the defending champion, but the danger of that unlikely KO punch for Gutierrez is something that that Irish woman is going to have to factor into her gameplan.
As the mandatory WBA challenger, Gutierrez is not quite a stepping-stone for Taylor, but it’s clear that the champion has bigger fights to come. Amanda Serrano remains very much on Taylor’s mind, despite difficulties in getting the Puerto Rican fighter to agree to a bout.
"I have the urge to fight her but I’m not sure she has the urge to fight me," Taylor said.
"The fight was scheduled a couple of times and she pulled out a couple of times. I would love to fight Serrano, she’s a several-weight champion, a huge fighter, a fighter everyone knows, and it would be a fight everyone would be very excited about."
Also occupying Taylor’s thoughts is Terri Harper, who defends her WBC super-featherweight title against Katharina Thanderz on the same bill as the Irish champion at the SSE Arena.
"Terri Harper is the most improved fighter of the last few years and she’s only 23, still going to improve," Taylor said.
"She has a great attitude, she gets involved in the big fights. That’s definitely a possible fight. That would be a huge fight."
Despite the prospect of bigger and more challenging fights to come, Taylor is adamant that she is not looking past Gutierrez and she's well aware of the threat that the hard-hitting Spaniard carries.
"She's obviously very, very dangerous," Taylor said at the pre-fight press conference.
"She's coming into this fight unbeaten as well. Two unbeaten fighters putting everything on the line tomorrow night.
"She is big, she is strong, she has a big punch, anything can happen I guess in professional boxing.
"I'm ready for a tough, 10-round battle. Ready to go into the trenches, if need be."
Taylor may indeed been called upon to go the distance against Gutierrez and given the nature of her opponent, an early night looks to be unlikely.
However Taylor is the superior fighter, with more experience and there's no reason to believe that she won't walk out of the ring with her undefeated record and impressive collection of titles still intact.
