Kildare's Katelynn Phelan got the better of the previously undefeated German Jessica Schadko in Munich to claim the WBC youth title, as well as the WBF and WIBA belts in the welterweight division.

Phelan now has four wins from her pro career so far, though the odds were against her ending Schadko's eight-fight winning sequence.

But that she did, with the 20-year-old on top from the first bell. Scoring heavily off both hands, Phelan only briefly let the local favourite gain some foothold and that was in round two.

In the next three rounds the Irish boxer scored heavily and had her opponent frequently up against the ropes. Before the sixth round Schadko's camp had seen enough and Phelan was left with three belts in her possession after a deserved TKO win.
