Gorey boxer Niall Kennedy has landed a chance to jumpstart his career after securing a fight with Alen Babic in Newcastle in October.
The heavyweight, who is a garda in Wicklow, will take on 29-year-old Babic – an explosive Croatian boxer who has made light work of his four opponents so far and is trying to rapidly climb the ranks of the division.
Babic secured an emphatic two-round destruction of Shawndell Winters during Matchroom Boxing's Fight Camp – the same month-long event Eric Donovan boxed on.
Kennedy’s career took a major blow 13 months ago when he suffered a first career defeat against American Devin Vargas.
A back injury contributed to that defeat and a wrist complaint kept Kennedy out of the ring before Covid-19 struck.
This fight represents the biggest opportunity of his career as part of the undercard of rising light-heavyweight star Joshua Buatsi's bout with Croatia's Marko Calic.
The card takes place on 4 October and will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
