Katie Taylor's promoter has said that thoughts could turn to a mandatory defence of her world titles as she searches for an opponent for a behind closed doors fight in August.

Taylor was due to box Amanda Serrano this summer in what was billed as being one of the biggest fights of her professional career, having already become undisputed lightweight champion.

Eddie Hearn had been hoping to make the fight in August on the grounds of his offices on 2 August.

However Serrano’s camp have said that it is not straight-forward.

A spat on social media involving the two boxers, Hearn and Serrano’s representative Lou DiBella did not help matters earlier this week, with Hearn saying "we rescheduled the fight for 22 August as per our signed contract".

Now Hearn is talking up the possibility of Spaniard Miriam Gutierrez filling in.

The 37-year-old has won all 13 pro fights and is a mandatory challenger, having claimed the interim WBA belt last November as Taylor was unifying the division.

A rematch with Delfine Persoon is also being mooted.

Hearn told Sky Sports: "We support Katie's fight with Serrano and Persoon, but if it's not one of them then she must face her mandatory Gutierrez - it's been over two years since she won the title and her mandatory is overdue."

Taylor had issued a challenge to Serrano on social media at the start of the dispute on Twitter: "We both signed contracts, all financial barriers have been removed and any training/travel issues are the same for both of us as I'm also training in the US.

"No more excuses, this is a fight to elevate the sport. 22 August is our time to make history. You in?"

Taylor's fight, regardless of opponent, is set to the chief support to the heavyweight clash of Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin on a pay per view show on Sky Box Office.
