The Irish boxing squad have cut short their training camp in Assisi due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in Italy.

The squad, which includes Kellie Harrrington and Kurt Walker, were in a two-week camp alongside Finland, France, India, Moldova, Switzerland, New Zealand, Romania and Russia as part of preparations for next month's Olympic qualifiers in London.

The Irish team management have taken the decision to return home this evening as a precaution.

Assisi, a hill town in the central Italian region of Umbria, is far from the effected Lombardy region,

The Six Nations clash between Ireland and Italy in Dublin has been postponed due to fears over the virus spreading further.
