Dennis Hogan suffered a seventh-round knockout as he lost his world title fight against Jermall Charlo in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

The WBC Middleweight title fight offered the Australia-based Irishman a chance of upsetting the odds at the Barclays Center but it wasn't to be, as the referee called a halt to the contest early in the seventh round.

Moving up in weight to contest for the middleweight world title, Hogan struggled against the unbeaten champion who sent the Kildare native crashing to the canvas in the fourth round for the first time in his career.

A vicious left uppercut landed just as Hogan was throwing a punch, which put the challenger down resulting in the Irish fighter completing a backward roll on the canvas before taking a count and continuing.

But Charlo remained in control and the referee had seen enough once Hogan was again floored inside the first minute of the seventh round as the champion moved to 30 wins in his unblemished career.
