World welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr is in hospital after being involved in a serious car crash.

The 29-year-old flipped his Ferrari several times in the Dallas area. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time. 

A police statement read: "At 2:53am a Ferrari travelling at a high rate of speed northbound in the 500 S. Riverfront Blvd.

"The Ferrari veered left over the center median onto the southbound lanes and flipped multiple times ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seatbelt.

"The driver was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to live, but remains in ICU (intensive care unit).

"The driver, a black male 29 years old, was the only occupant in the vehicle. The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time."

In September, Spence defeated Shawn Porter on a split decision in an enthralling bout to add the WBC welterweight belt to his IBF strap.

He beat Kell Brook in May 2017 to take the Englishman's his IBF crown following an 11th-round stoppage at Bramall Lane.

After news of Spence's crash broke. Brook tweeted: "Get well soon champ! Thought are with you and wishing you a full and speedy recovery."
