Kurt Walker has missed out on a medal at the World Elite Championships in Russia following a unanimous decision defeat to Tsendbaatar Erdenebat.

The 24-year-old European champion fought gamely throughout against his shorter opponent, who remained busy and caused Walker trouble on the inside.

Walker's game-plan appeared to be to fight on the back foot to utilise his superior reach, but despite looking in control for periods of the fight, most notably in the second round, the Lisburn fighter lost on all five judges' cards - three judges scored the contest 30-27 and the other two 29-28.

The Mongolian No 3 seed progresses to the semi-final of the competition and is guaranteed a medal at the championship.

Walker was the last Irishman standing at the Championships and his defeat means the Irish team will return home without a medal for the first time since 2007.
