Aoife O'Rourke was crowned European champion in Madrid as the Roscommon native defeated Poland's Elzebieta Wojcik in the 75kg final.

O'Rourke came through a scrappy affair against a tough Polish opponent to win on points by a unanimous 5:0 decision.

The Irish fighter kept control of the centre of the ring throughout with Wojcik content to fight off the back foot.

But O'Rourke's aggression and energy proved effective as she secured the gold medal taking the decision from all five judges.

Dundalk's Amy Broadhurst was presented with her bronze medal just minutes before O'Rourke came into the ring to fight the middleweight decider.
