Galway native Kieran Molloy is guaranteed a bronze medal, at least, after securing a spot in the semi-finals at EU Elite Championships in Spain.
The welterweight enjoyed a split decision victory over Italy's Vincenzo Arecchiai.
Molloy never looked in danger of losing against the Italian and forced standing counts in the second and third rounds.
The Oughterard boxer was awarded a 3-1 split decision from the five-judge panel with one remarkably handing the decision to Arecchiai and another seeing the contest as a draw.
Molloy will now take on the highly rated English fighter, Pat McCormack, in the last four, and victory would secure a silver medal and offer a great opportunity of taking gold in Valladolid.
Meanwhile, Portlaoise light-welterweight Wayne Kelly was beaten by impressive Moldovan Dmitry Galogot, and Dubliner Kiril Afanasev fights for a medal in the heavyweight quarter-finals on Wednesday.
