European champion Joe Ward has withdrawn from the Ireland squad for the European Union Men’s Championships in Spain because of a hand injury.

Ward picked up the injury winning gold at an Elite multi-nations in Romania last month.

The squad are currently training at the University of Jordanstown in Belfast with the Ulster high performance team, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Romania and Switzerland ahead of the start of the ninth edition of the tournament.

The Irish squad leave for Valladolid on 7 November.

Boxing will be contested across the ten traditional weights for men from light-fly to super-heavy in Spain.
