After comprehensively defeating Cindy Serrano in her latest world title defence in Boston, Katie Taylor has called out the younger Serrano sister, Amanda, for what she says would be a "huge" fight.
Amanda Serrano, a world champion in six different weight classes, has recently abandoned boxing to pursue mixed martial arts but Taylor believes she can be coaxed back for a potential super-fight.
"I just want to be involved in big fights again," Taylor said after her bout with Cindy.
"It was a great atmosphere tonight, and it was great to fight one of the Serrano sisters, and the other one I hope is on the way some time next year.
"That fight is huge with myself and Amanda, and that’s the fight that everyone wants to see…I think she’s doing everything she can to avoid a fight with me."
Taylor also revealed that Cindy’s husband and trainer bizarrely taunted her during the fight about picking the weaker Serrano sister.
If a fight can be made, it’s hoped Amanda Serrano will bring a much higher level of performance than Cindy did on Saturday night at the TD Garden.
Despite an impressive CV, the Puerto Rican offered almost nothing in the way of resistance as Taylor coasted to a unanimous points victory, winning every round with ease.
"She was very, very defensive. I was expecting a lot more from Cindy tonight. It is hard to take someone out when someone is so defensive for the whole 10 rounds. I think she was just there to survive," Taylor said.
"I got quite bored half way through the fight, actually. She really wasn’t doing much at all. I was very, very surprised…I had a lot of respect for Cindy coming into this fight.
"I thought she was going to give it everything she has tonight but she was quite happy to survive for the 10 rounds…why would you do that as a fighter? Just give it your all.
"I would actually prefer to be knocked out while giving my all than just survive the 10 rounds."
Her boredom was such that she indulged in some theatrics – holding her hands behind her back and taunting her sheepish opponent to come forward.
"I was just trying to enjoy myself in there tonight. I did actually get caught with a jab when I did that, I was mortified!"
It’s a move which Conor McGregor would no doubt have endorsed – the UFC fighter had dropped by Taylor’s changing room beforehand to offer support, and was seated ringside for the contest.
If an agreement with Amanda Serrano can’t be reached, Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn indicated that he would like her to unify the other two lightweight belts, before taking on Cecilia Brækhus in another potential super-fight.
