Anthony Joshua has dismissed the prospect of him following Tyson Fury's blueprint for beating Wladimir Klitschko, despite his rival being the only fighter to do so in 11 years.

The IBF heavyweight champion makes the latest defence of his title, and also fights to become the WBA champion, when on April 29 at Wembley Stadium he becomes Klitschko's first opponent since the Fury defeat.

He remains the early favourite, but it should not be overlooked that until Fury's shock victory, Klitschko had not lost since being stopped by Lamon Brewster in 2004.

"I can't really take anything away from watching Klitschko perform that night

Since the Brewster defeat the Ukrainian, who will be 41 come fight night, has significantly improved his defence and will therefore be a far harder target for the powerful-yet-smaller Joshua to reach.

Fury is one of the few to have both height and reach advantages on Klitschko and capitalised on them with a masterful performance reliant on impressive footwork and intelligent boxing when outpointing him in November 2015.

The 27-year-old Joshua may be a more devastating puncher, but for all of his promise is yet to demonstrate anything like Fury's skills, and he said: "No game-plan from Tyson Fury.

"I can't really take anything away from watching Klitschko perform that night.

"The timing's right. A year ago I was asked this question, 'Give me another year', and now we're in the present.

"These fights can change the way people view you. It's about beating the right people to go down in history.

"(I can become) a legend overnight.

"I definitely take inspiration from Wladimir. Boxing's one thing, but as a man he's definitely a good man.

"I'm going to prepare for a 12-round fight. That's experience."

Klitschko, however, revealed a "five-step plan" he believes will re-establish him as the world's leading heavyweight in what he has described as his "signature" fight.
