Jono Carroll maintained his unbeaten professional record with a facile points victory over Spanish fighter Juan Luis Gonzalez in Glasgow on Saturday night.

Fighting on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ successful defence of his WBO middleweight title, Carroll showed great movement and quick hands throughout to record his 13th victory in the paid ranks.

The MGM fighter eased his way into the fight against the attack-minded Spaniard and looked totally at ease fighting off the back foot, evading everything being thrown by Gonzalez.

Carroll then gradually became more dominant, taking control of the centre of the ring, while landing several snappy combinations to head and body as he began to rack up the rounds.

The former lightweight Prize Fighter winner, fighting the eight rounder in Glasgow at super featherweight, maintained a fast pace throughout the middle rounds and really began to dominate the now fading Spaniard.

'King Kong' Carroll was in total control from the fifth round onwards and appeared intent on putting on an entertaining display in a bout that was shown live on BoxNation.

And the Dunshaughlin man duly obliged for the remaining rounds, showcasing his undoubted potential, while also showing that he can take a punch, as Gonzalez landed a big left out of nowhere in the sixth round.

Carroll laughed the blow off as he returned to his corner and proceeded to power through rounds seven and eight to take the contest 79-73 on the scorecard.

Meanwhile, Stephen Ormond took another step back towards world class level as he defeated Hungarian Zoltan Szabo at the same venue.

'The Rock', who shared the ring with current world champion Terry Flanagan last year, exacted revenge on Szabo, who shocked Ormond with a knockout victory back in October of this year.

But a revitalised Ormond took the eight-round lightweight contest on points against his taller opponent, who used his reach well to frustrate at times, the referee awarding the fight to the Dubliner 79-74.
