VIDEO - Kellie Harrington: Next time I'll win gold

Silver medallist Kellie Harrington insists she'll be back for the gold after a highly impressive debut at the Women's World Boxing Championships.

The 26-year-old was edged out in today's light-weltwerweight final by China’s Wenlu Yang but enjoyed the experience of mixing it with the elite in Kazakhstan and is determined to go one better next time.

"It was absolutely fantastic. It was a great feeling, being in there with the top-class boxers in the world," she told RTÉ Sport. "Now I know I'm up there and all I have to do is keep pushing. Never give up.

"I don't think I'm the best, I know I'm the best. And I believe because everybody here (her coaches) is making me believe.

"We're going to do some more work and next time it will be gold I take home."

"Now I know I'm up there and all I have to do is keep pushing. Never give up"

The Dubliner said that she hoped the immediate impact of her success would be increased funding and access to the high-performance training programme

"It just means now that I'm on funding. I'm a non-funded athlete so now I can get funding and won't have to focus on working as much.

"The money will hopefully be there for me to train more.

"I'll be over in the high-performance gym with the lads, getting more great sparring in, pad-work, combat, techniques, the whole lot.

"Getting the silver will push me even more to come back and get that gold."
