Lee Haskins made a successful defence of his IBF world bantamweight title with a unanimous points victory over Ivan Morales at the Cardiff Ice Arena.
He had almost complete control from the start and his superiority was reflected on the cards of the three judges, who scored it 119-108, 118-110, 118-110 In Haskins' favour.
Morales, eight years Haskins' junior at the age of 24, lacked the punch power and know-how to record an upset, even if the Mexican continued to come forward until the final bell.
Haskins was making his first title defence after being crowned champion in rather unsatisfactory fashion last November.
Randy Caballero was stripped of the title after coming in over five pounds above the 118lbs bantamweight limit, and Haskins has since had to wait to prove himself in the ring.
Haskins' challenger came from famous fighting stock as Morales' brother Erik was a four-weight world champion and another sibling, Diego, was a former WBO flyweight king.
Morales had a significant height and reach advantage but Haskins looked as if he carried the greater power from the first bell, one chopping right hand almost stopping the Mexican in his tracks.
Haskins was quick to counter, but his unusual low guard enabled Morales to enjoy a degree of success when he came forward.
Evidence of Haskins' power showed in the fourth round as Morales suffered a swelling under his right eye.
But it did not stop Morales' determination to force the fight until he suddenly changed tactics in the sixth round and chose to go on the back foot.
Morales was still in retreat when he was tagged by a strong left in the seventh which appeared to daze him for a few seconds.
Haskins failed to follow up and he let Morales off the hook, but he was fighting at his preferred slower pace and was clearly well ahead as the contest entered the closing stages.
Morales' made one final push for glory, but the elusive Haskins stayed free of trouble to finally call himself a world champion in the ring.
