Former Irish senior amateur champion Philip Sutcliffe Jr fell to a first career defeat in Hamburg on Saturday night as Swedish fighter Anthony Yigit overcame him on points.
The European No 2 got the verdict on a 77-75, 77-75, 76-76 scorecard to crush the Dubliner's dreams of challenging for the European light welterweight title.
It was a tough one to swallow for Sutcliffe Jr, as Yigit prevailed on the undercard of the European Heavyweight title fight and IBF World title eliminator between Kubrat Pulev and Dereck Chisora.
The highly rated Sutcliffe Jr had not tasted defeat since turning professional back in March 2013.
The undefeated Yigit eturns was making his return to the ring for the first time since his third-round stoppage victory over DeMarcus Corley in December.
