London 2012 lightweight gold medallist Katie Taylor has been selected as Team Ireland’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony for the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, tomorrow.

The five-time world champion will lead out the Ireland squad in the inaugural continental games at the at the 63,000 capacity Olympic Stadium in the Azeri capital, the Olympic Council of Ireland has confirmed.

Her first taste of action at the games will be at 8.30am on Sunday 21 June, in the round of 16 of the women's light division.

Ireland have competitors at 14 sports at the games, including 12 boxers.

6,000 athletes, representing 50 countries in 20 sports,will compete at Baku 2015.
