John Joe Nevin stopped Englishman Jack Heath in the first round at the 3Arena in Dublin to make it three wins from three (two KOs) in the professional ranks.

The Olympic silver medallist looked sharp and pummelled his opponent (3-8) from the off, putting him down three times before the referee intervened and stopped the super featherweight contest.

Speaking afterwards to Sky Sports, the 25-year-old praised the Irish fans and thanked the Irish Amateur Boxing Association and head coach Billy Walsh for helping him to develop as a boxer.

"It feels amazing [to win in Dublin]," he said. "These are the fans who followed me out to London.

"I did okay for them there but some day I'd like to bring back a world title.

"I'd like to thank the high-performance unit - Billy Walsh, Gary Keegan and all the coaches for everything they've done for me. I wouldn't be here without them.

"I'm here to test myself. I've done everything I could as an amateur. Bring it on."

Earlier on the card, the much-hyped grudge match between Cork's Gary O'Sullivan (18-1) and Dublin's Anthony Fitzgerald (16-7) was over far more quickly than anticipated.

Midway through the first round, 'Spike' O'Sullivan floored his opponent with a crunching right uppercut that left him unable to beat the count.
