Kenneth Egan has earned another crack at Joe Ward in the Elite National Championships after booking his ticket for an unprecedented 13th final since 2001 with a victory on Saturday night.
Egan beat Davey Joe Joyce 13-7 and will now meet Ward, who received a bye into the 81kg decider, which will take place next Friday.
Willie McLaughlin scored a narrow decision over Beijing Olympian John Joe Joyce to book his ticket into the welterweight final.
McLaughlin will face defending men’s welterweight champion Adam Nolan next following his hard-fought over Joyce.
McLaughlin said: “Fair dues to Johnny, it was a hell of a fight. I knew I was up against it, Johnny knew he was up against it.
"It was a 50-50 fight and all credit to Johnny, he gave as good as he got. It is a pity it was not the final."
Meanwhile, talented teenager Hannah Carthy enhanced her growing reputation with another victory.
The Kilkenny light-fly beat Sligo’s Maeve Clarke to claim her first Elite belt in one of five women’s finals.
Clarke appeared to go down under a big right from Carthy in the first as the new champion took the opening round 4-1 before drawing the second and edging the third.
Clarke threw everything into attack in the final frame, but there was no denying 17-year-old Carthy, who won an Intermediate belt in December.
