Cork's Gary 'Spike' O'Sullivan won the most important fight of his life on the evening of his 28th birthday to become the WBO International Middleweight champion.

O'Sullivan, fighting on the undercard of David Haye and Dereck Chisora, won a unanimous points decision against a determined opponent, Manchester's Matthew Hall and claimed the vacant title.

Hall - a tough and experienced come-forward fighter - did his best to bombard the Irish champion with punches from all angles from start to finish he rarely made it past O'Sullivan's defence.

The Cork native used a quick savage jab to good effect and landed huge power punches to the head and body time and time again to impress the judges and take the title by a unanimous 117-111, 115-114 and 117-111 on their scorecards.

O'Sullivan has now extended his perfect unbeaten record to 15 fights, 15 wins and 9 knockouts - and has added the International WBO belt to add to his Irish BUI and American ABO titles.
