5.45pm - Tommy McCarthy v Vladimir Cheles (91kg) 

There are three Irish boxers in action with Adam Nolan and Tommy McCarthy looking to progress their chances of securing their Olympic berths, while Paddy Barnes’ focus can now turn to winning the tournament after he secured his spot in London with a 17-9 win over Stefan Caslarov of Romania on Wednesday.

Adam Nolan is the first of the Irish in action in the fifth bout on the card as he takes on Ionut Gheorghe of Romania in the semi-final of the 69kg (welterweight) division. With two qualifying places available in the welterweight division the winner of this bout will claim a place in London. This bout is provisionally scheduled for 1.15pm Irish time.

Paddy Barnes, already assured of his seat on the plane to London, is the second Irishman into the ring as he faces Ferhat Pehlivan of Turkey for a place in the 49kg (flyweight) tournament final. The bout is the first in session 2 on the day, and is provisionally scheduled for 5.00pm Irish time.

Belfastman Tommy McCarthy is the final Irishman in action on the day. He faces Vladimir Cheles of Moldova in the 91kg (heavyweight) semi-final which is the penultimate bout on the card and is provisionally scheduled for 5.45pm Irish time.

The heavyweight division provides the toughest route to London, with only the winner of the tournament qualifying for an Olympic place.
