69 kg: Adam Nolan won 14-9 v Thomasz Kot (Poland)

81kg: Joe Ward lost 18-15 to Bahran Muzaffer (Turkey)

91+ kg +: Con Sheehan lost 17-12 to Muhammet Erkan Aci (Turkey)

20.25 The appeal Joe Ward lodged after his controversial defeat to Bahran Muzaffer has proven unsuccessful as no rules were broken in arriving at the verdict. Such an outcome was always likely. Boxing results are rarely overturned.

19.06 Con Sheehan becomes the second Irishman to exit at the hands of a local fighter, but Sheehan's defeat to Muhammet Erkan Aci was much more clear-cut than Wards.

Sheehan was level 5-5 with Aci at the end of the first round but trailed by two points as the second ended and eventually went out on a 17-12 scoreline.

18.30 Bahran Muzaffer racked up six points in the final round of his victory agaisnt Joe Ward, much to the bemusement of several experts ringside. Did a partisan crowd sway the judges? The Irish camp are currently discussing launching an appeal.

The Sport At 7 team will have live reaction from Turkey on tonight’s programme.

17.50 Current European light-heavyweight champion Joe Ward was narrowly beaten in his fight with Bahran Muzaffer of Turkey, who beat Kenneth Egan in the Beijing Olympics. Ward was 5-4 down after the first round and just 12-11 behind at the end of the second.

He eventually lost out 18-15 and will now not represent Ireland in this summer’s games.

17.17 Tommy McCarthy is also through after a 12-3 win over Copla Alem from Bosnia & Herzegovina. The Oliver Plunkett's fighter won all of the rounds (4-1, 4-1, 4-1) to advance. He will now meet Umit Patir of Turkey in Wednesday's quarter-final bout.

14.40 Welterweight Adam Nolan's survived a knock-down in his clash with Tomasz Kot of Poland to claim victory on a 14-9 margin.

The Wexford man was in change early on, leading 7-4 after the first round before extending that to 11-6 at the end of the second round.

Knowing that he needed to make a major impact in the final round, Kot went on the front foot and caught Nolan with a big shot, forcing him to take a count in the first few seconds of the third.

However, Nolan kept his composure and continued to use his superior reach to keep Kot at bay and secure victory, 14-9.

13.20 Ross Hickey's chances of qualification are over after his defeat to Dimitri Galagot of Molodva. Hickey was just one point down after the first round, 6-5, but his opponent pulled away and led 13-9 going into the last round.

The Grangecon man never really got going and eventually lost out by 24 points to 11.

12.00 Following on from yesterday’s wins for Joe Ward and David Oliver Joyce at the AIBA Olympic qualifying campaign in Trabzon, Turkey there are four more Irish boxers in action today, all at the last-16 stage.

Adam Nolan from Bray is due in the ring around 3.00 Irish time, while Tommy McCarthy of Oliver Plunkett’s and Con Sheehan from Clonmel are in the ring in the later session.

Olympic medallist Paddy Barnes of Holy Family GG received a first-round bye and takes on Hungarian Istvan Ungvari on Tuesday.

Welterweight Nolan and super-heavyweight Sheehan will represent Ireland at the 30th Olympiad if they get through to the 69kg and 91+kg finals.

Places in the semi-finals will be enough for light-flyweight Barnes and lightweight Joyce to book their London places.
