The rematch - Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson could be back in the ring in April

Amir Khan believes a rematch with Lamont Peterson could happen as early as April.

The World Boxing Association yesterday confirmed they had granted the 25-year-old another shot at the American amid what Khan's camp described as "a plethora of anomalies" in the original fight.

Khan, who lost both his WBA and IBF light welterweight titles in a split-decision defeat in Peterson's home town of Washington DC on December 10, is hoping the fight happens as soon as possible.

He told Sky Sports News: "Normally I give myself a 10-week training camp. I think the fight could happen round about mid-April or May. We'll be more than ready."

The Englishman has vociferously complained about a number of issues since the defeat and lobbied both governing bodies - and the Washington DC commission - to change the result to a no-contest and/or force the two men to fight again.

And WBA vice president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza told Press Association Sport: "I can confirm there we have ordered a direct rematch."
