World lightweight champion Katie Taylor has dedicated her AIBA World Female Boxer of the Year to the people who worked to make women's boxing an Olympic sport.
Taylor, who claimed her third AIBA World title in a row in Barbados in September, was presented with the World Female Boxer of the Year award by AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu at a ceremony in Kazakhstan last night.
The 24-year-old Bray woman won the same award in Moscow in 2008.
This time, the current European and European Union champion, dedicated the award to all the people who worked to make women's boxing an Olympic sport.
She said: ‘I would like to thank AIBA for this award. It's a huge honour to receive this award above all the great female boxers in the world.
Taylor, who will box for gold in London in 2012, added: ‘I'm so happy that women's boxing is included in the London Olympics and I would like to collect this award on behalf of everyone who made that happen. In London 2012 we are going to show the world what women's boxing can do.’
