Irish fight fans could be in for a New Year treat as John Duddy and Andy Lee look set to go head to head at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Reports in Wednesday’s Irish Times claim that a fight between the two top-rated middleweights will happen early in the New Year as long as promoters can agree a deal with both camps.

Limerick southpaw Lee said: ‘Emanuel (Stewart) and John Duddy's people have agreed to make the fight between myself and John.

‘It will probably go ahead in New York in January, but that depends on what offer the promoters come back with.

‘I might take a fight on the Wladimir (Klitschko) undercard in Germany as I would like to get one more fight under my belt this year.’
