Stevie Quinn recorded the first victory of the tournament at Friday night’s IABA Open Youth Competition at the National Stadium in Dublin.
Despite a brave display by Karl Maher, Quinn, from the Eastside club in Belfast, was always in control of this flyweight contest at the South Circular Road venue.
Meanwhile, Ryan Burnett was 13-0 up in his all Belfast duel with Joel McCartney when the Eastside club-man was disqualified in the second round after receiving his third public warning for dropping his head.
Anthony Hartley saw off the challenge of Jack Harvey and Sunnyside ace Jamie Long advanced after his bout with Jason McInerney was stopped in the third with the Corkman 9-1 up.
George Bates and Glen Holmes chalked up impressive wins, while Barry O'Neill, Michael McDonagh, Ryan McKeown and Patrick McDonagh also had their hands raised in victory.
Jamie Lee Maxwell and John Corcoran progressed from the final two bouts of the evening.
