Jason Quigley is the European Youth welterweight champion after beating beat Emil Ahmadov of Azerbaijan 6-1 in the final of the competition in Szezecin, Poland on Saturday.

The Finn Valley Donegal clubman claimed gold over four, two minute rounds to finish on top of the podium in this afternoon's 69Kg final.

Speaking after the win, his fifth victory in six days, the 18-year-old orthodox punching Irish Intermediate and Youth champion, who has seven Irish titles to his name, said that it was a proud moment to see the Irish flag being raised.

He said: 'It was a tough week and I had to keep my concentration in all my bouts. It was a very proud moment for me to hear the Irish national anthem being played and to see our flag being raised was really special.'

Quigley actually secured gold after claiming wins in two countries as his last 32 victory over Joni Polishsuk of Finland was in Schwedt, Germany where some of the preliminary round contests were held last Sunday.

However, his next four victories were in Szezecin, Poland.
