Darren Sutherland admitted he still has a lot to learn about the professional game

Former Olympic bronze medallist Darren Sutherland notched up his fourth win in four fights as a professional with a win over Ukrainian Gennadiy Rasalev in London tonight.

The Dubliner stopped his opponent in the first round when referee Mark Green intervened with Rasalev struggling to see due to a bad cut above his left eye.

Sutherland had inflicted the injury with a flurry of powerful right hands in the third round of the six-round bout at York Hall in Bethnal Green.

But Sutherland did not escape unhurt as he incurred a nasty gash on his right cheek, which throws his plans to fight again in 11 days' time into doubt.

The 27-year-old middleweight admitted afterwards that it was a recurrence of an cut picked up in sparring.

'We're not playing marbles, it's a tough sport. Your opponent is going to hit you back,' Sutherland told Sky Sports.

'I had a bit of a cut earlier in sparring and it just re-opened. That played on my mind going into it. I took a few shots and the guy was game.

'I wanted to keep going. I'm disappointed that they stopped it because of the cut because I wanted to keep improving. I was just starting to get to him as it (the fight) was going on.

'This is only the start - I want to go on and do good things. There's going to be a lot of hard battles to come and you've just got to keep learning.'
