Derry middleweight John Duddy will return to the ring in New York next month still looking to get a world title bid back on track.
Duddy's opponent has yet to be confirmed but he has suggested that his future is at light-middleweight. The Derry Destroyer will be the main bill on a title card including Peter Quillin, Pawel Wolak and Jorge Luis Teron on 21 November at the famed Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan.
The 29-year-old has won all 25 of his professional fights including 17 knock-outs but fell out of the running for a summer title fight against champion Kerry Pavlik when he suffered a bad cut over his eye in an unimpressive victory over the unfancied Walid Smichet at Madison Square Garden in February.
If Duddy wins he will yet again be on the verge of a world title fight in 2009 as a middleweight or light-middleweight.
He is rated number two by the World Boxing Association, as well as number five by the World Boxing Council and number seven by the International Boxing Federation.
Duddy stated at a press conference for the event: ‘This is going to be a very, very exciting card with the best of New York City’s fighters and their fans. There are four main event fighters on the same card. I’m hopefully going to put on a great show for the fans of New York.’
