World and European lightweight champion Katie Taylor won her third major title after she claimed gold at the European Union Championships in Liverpool.

Taylor, 21, beat Cindy Orain of France 11-0 in the 60Kg final - and in a double celebration for the Bray boxer she was also presented with the boxer of the tournament award at the Greenpark Sports Arena on Merseyside.

Taylor, who defends her World title in Ningbo City China in November, received a bye into the semi-final where she stopped Poland's Sandra Kruk 45 seconds into round one.

Taylor was 2-0 up against Orain after the first round before stretching her lead to 6-0 at the bell for the end of the second.

She then added another five point to her total in the third and final round and also ensured that she did not concede a point at the championship.

Taylor's Bray Boxing Club team-mate, Debbie Rogers, won bronze at the tournament, while Kelly Harrington, of the Corinthians club in Dublin, was beaten in the quarter-final.
