Ireland lost 7-4 to England in a thrilling junior international at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday night.

Tom Stubbs got the visitors off to a positive start, but Gary Molloy restored parity for the hosts with a deserved win over Chris Blinkhorn.

Haroon Khan, a brother of 2004 Olympic silver medallist Amir, Michael Stephens, John Quigley and Tyrone McKenna then traded victories to leave the match tied at 3-3.

But England forged 6-3 in front after Antonio Counahan, Daniel Philips and Joe Hughes had their hands raised in triumph -Hughes edging out Jamie Kavanagh by the narrowest of margins, a 23-22 count-back win after both boxers were tied at 11-11.

Kirk Garvey extended the visitors advantage versus Matthew O'Sullivan before Bernard Roe claimed the final bout of the evening for Ireland after earning a 12-9 verdict over Ryan Aston.
