Unbeaten Irish middleweight John Duddy has pulled out of his 22nd professional fight scheduled for the Kings Hall in Belfast on August 25.

Duddy's manager and promoter Eddie McLoughlin, speaking from New York, confirmed last night that the Derryman would not be making an appearance at the Ulster venue later this month.

A cut over his left eye sustained during his defeat of Italian Alessio Furlan at the National Stadium in Dublin last month has been cited as the reason from Duddy's withdrawal.

However, according to McLoughlin, Duddy will box in Ireland this year, although it could be in October at a venue to be confirmed.

McLoughlin said: 'John won't be boxing in the Kings Hall in Belfast later this month but we hope to arrange another fight for John in Ireland which will probably be in October.John could actually box in Ireland another two times this year.'

October 6 has been mentioned as a possible date for Duddy's second fight in Ireland.
