Irish boxers Peter Brady and David Joe Joyce had to be content with silver at the European Union Cadet Championships last night after they both lost their finals in Sardinia, Italy.
Light-flyweight Peter Brady, from the Poleglass club in Belfast, was stopped in round two by England's James Dickens.
And light-welterweight David Joe Joyce (St Michael's Athy) was edged out (20-25) by Italian Francesco Nespro.
Both boxers performed magnificently to get to the deciders with Brady beating Turkey's Mustafa Aydin 23-17 in his semi-final, and Joyce chalking up a 23-13 last four victory over England's Anthony Fowler.
Brady and Joyce were part of a four-strong Irish squad, which also included Ruari Dalton (St John's Belfast) and Des Fahy (Clonmel), both of whom bowed out at the quarter-final stage.
The Irish Amateur Boxing Association will also send a team to the European Cadet Championships, which begin in Hungary on 23 June.
