Irish boxers will travel to the United States to try and secure qualification for the 2008 Olympics after world boxing chiefs at the AIBA confirmed that the US would host the 2007 World Championships.
The World Championships have taken on a massive significance since the AIBA announced last year that they would also act as one of the qualifiers for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Boxers reaching the quarter-final stage at the World Championships will book their tickets for Beijing, although heavyweights and super heavyweights must reach the semi-finals to secure Olympic qualification.
A host City and a date for the 2007 tournament has yet to be announced but Chicago has been mooted as the venue in either September or October of this year.
The Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) is presently assessing their squad for the event.
Meanwhile, the National Senior Cadet Championships will begin at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday before concluding on Sunday.
