Unbeaten Irish middleweight John Duddy is aiming to up the tempo against veteran Mexican puncher Luis Ramon 'Yory Boy' Campas  at Madison Square Garden in New York later  tonight (around 3.30am Irish time).

Both men go head to head at the sold out 5,000 capacity MSG Theatre Club with an IBA world title up for grabs.

Campas, 36, who has dropped 72 opponents en route to recording an amazing 88 victories from 96 pro fights, is Duddy's most formidable and experienced opponent to date.

But 27-year-old Duddy, who has won 17 fights so far (15 KO's) is ready for what he describes as the biggest challenge of his career.

The Derryman finished up training in the Pocono mountains in Pennsylvania last Sunday and believes that Yory Boys best days are behind him ahead of the 'Shamrock & Sombreros' clash.

However the Ulsterman, who fights out of the Irish Ropes gym in New York, insists that he is not in the business of taking anything for granted, stressing that he has total respect for his opponent.

He said: 'It is an exciting fight and I am really looking forward to it as Campas has been around for such a long time and he is a very respected boxer, and I'm one of the people that respects him.

'But I feel that his best days are behind him. He needs this victory and he'll be giving it everything he's got and I cannot afford to take anything for granted in there.

'I have a game plan and we have studied Campas until we were blue in the face and basically I'll be looking to do a lot of work early on and maintain a very high tempo from the opening bell.

'My training camp in the Pocono's went very well and I am in the best shape of my life going into this fight and I am confident of victory.'

Duddy's coach Harry Keitt has been helping his man shape up, by letting him hammer truck tyres with a five-pound sledgehammer after he has finished his sparring a technical work.

He added: 'We have been doing four minute sparring rounds, four-minute technical work, four-minute working on pads, everything is geared toward four minutes exactly.

'John hammers a few truck tyres after his technical work but all my boxers do this as it is a training method, to build up muscle, which I have retained from the old school of boxing.

'Campas is very experienced but we will do what we have to do and we'll take care of business on the night.'

Arklow's James Moore will compete on the undercard to Duddy's fight.
