Taylor qualifies for quarter-finals

Irish boxer Katie Taylor (60kg) cruised into the quarter-finals of the Women's European Senior Championships following a convincing preliminary round victory in Poland.

Taylor, whose dad Peter is in her corner in Warsaw, stopped Sweden's Teuta Cuni in the second round of their lightweight contest and is now just three fights away from successfully defending the gold medal that she won at this level last year.

The 20-year-old St Fergal's Bray puncher, who is a former FAI Under-19 Women's Player of the Year, will now meet a Romanian opponent in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Taylor is the Irish Amateur Boxing Association's (IABA) sole representative in Poland after Allana Murphy, from the Eastside club in Belfast, pulled out because of injury.
